The buzz around the office today was incredible. A lady came to us for CV advice after being asked by a recruitment agency to change her CV so that it did not contain statements that could be considered discriminating before they could send her to their client.
What were these discriminating statements? words such as Motivated, Energetic, Demanding, Experienced - what we regard as power verbs. Relevant power verbs are needed in most CVs, the idea is that you are convincing someone to hire you rather than someone else.
Recruitment agencies have to be rightfully careful about ethnicity, gender, age etc discrimination but surely this has gone far too far.
We did produce a CV for her (for free), that could not possibly offend anyone and its the most dynamic and concise CV we have ever written, Ive printed it below:
Mary XXXXXX
tel and email addresses
Member of the Human Race
This is Ok as non humans are not covered by the discrimination acts in UK, at least, not yet!! the lady decided she didnt want to work for such an employer but sent her new CV in anyway, we await the reply with interest.

Hi Sagitha, the same thing happened to me last year, I wish I had done what your lady did but I just went elsewhere.

PC Brigade seem to be getting everywhere, Good for you guys in the action you and this lady took
Not surprised really, England is becoming paranoid with equality, here we have the rules but everyone ignores them, even the authority

the only real way to stop this nonsense is to name and shame. There was something similar I read in daily mail last week
